Fair Housing of Sonoma County

Who Are We & What Do We Do?

Fair Housing of Sonoma County (FHOSC) has been established to provide free information and assistance to all residents of Sonoma County. We are a non-profit agency funded to provide answers to questions on housing related issues to landlords, tenants, and homeowners. FHOSC will also provide referrals to other Sonoma County agencies and resources that can provide additional help. FHOSC is the designated provider of fair housing and landlord-tenant information and referral services, under contract with Sonoma County and the City of Santa Rosa.

CommunityFHOSC is a project of Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County (CAPSC). CAPSC is the 40-year old designated Community Action Agency for Sonoma County. CAPSC is a non-profit agency that provides a wide range of programs for Sonoma County residents, including Head Start, Youth Services, School-based health care, YouthBuild construction training, and a range of housing and homeless services. You can visit the CAPSC Web site by clicking on the Community Action logo.

FHOSC was begun in 1999 as a collaboration between CAPSC and Fair Housing of Marin. In response to a perceived lack of community-based housing counseling services in Sonoma County, FHOSC has assembled a combination of federal, county, city, and private donations to become the officially designated provider of these services for Sonoma County and the City of Santa Rosa.

FHOSC seeks to provide balanced and unbiased information to all parties. The Fair Housing Advisory Task Force meets several times per year to advise and consult with FHOSC on the quality of our work and the effectiveness of our outreach. Membership on this Advisory Committee is open to all people who are committed to the work of this organization. Volunteers are welcome to contact FHOSC to find out more about how they can help. FHOSC welcomes feedback and support from the community.

FHOSC currently has a staff of three people. Our Fair Housing Hotline phone number is (707) 579-5033 and our office for drop-in counseling is located at 1300 N. Dutton in Santa Rosa (between College Ave. and Guerneville Rd.) Our housing counselors are bilingual (Spanish-English). In January, 2004, we published a second addition of A Handbook for Landlords & Tenants that is available at locations throughout Sonoma County. That Handbook can be downloaded from the front page of this web-site. We will republish the handbook in 2007.

FHOSC is available to make presentations to groups within our community such as housing providers, tenant groups, social service agencies, and the media. Please contact us to make arrangements.
