NEW LANDLORD-TENANT LAWS, EFFECTIVE 1/1/06


LANDLORDS CAN'T REQUIRE CASH FOR RENT PAYMENTS

EXCEPT in the case of prior bounced checks, a landlord or property manager can not require that the rent be paid in cash (remember- always get a receipt in writing)

SEX OFFENDER'S ADDRESS

For convicted sex offenders, the zip code and home address will be posted on the Attorney Gneral's web site, along with other descriptive information.

60 Day Notice Provision Reinstated

The 60-day termination of tenancy clause contained in Civil Code 1946 has been reinstated. All landlords or their agents will be required to serve 60-day Termination of Tenancy notice to month-to-month tenants who have resided in a property for one year or more.
