Filing Your Complaint

Contact Fair Housing of Sonoma County for an official HUD Complaint Form and assistance in filing a complaint. Or go directly to HUD'S FAIR HOUSING PAGE, then click on HUD, Online Housing Discrimination Complaint Form to file a complaint online.

Once HUD has received your complaint, they will review it and contact you regarding the information you submitted, possibly requesting additional information or necessary documents. The information gathered will determine if there is sufficient evidence to go forward.

Complaint:

  1. Complaint received.
    1. Review complaint and attached information
    2. Contact complainant - interview - clarification and additional information obtained if needed to establish jurisdiction.
    3. Notification letter - jurisdiction found - case officially filed or no jurisdiction - case dismissed
    1. Respondent notified of complaint.
      1. Investigation - possible conciliation attempt - Successful conciliation - case closed, unsuccessful conciliation - investigative report to regional legal counsel for review.
      2. Cause determination - case remains with legal counsel - any settlement in form of consent decree.
      3. No-cause determination - case closed - appeal process in place.
